Current Issue |
Six days after surgery, Patient 7 developed a skin irritation at her wound site with green pus that had a fruity odor oozing from the wound. It was both itchy and painful to the touch. |
History |
Patient 7 is a 42-year-old female with hypertension and morbid obesity. After meeting the qualifications required for bariatric surgery (6 months of counseling, adhering to a diet, losing 50 lb), she is having a surgery that will restrict the amount of food that she is physically able to eat. During the surgery, she receives IV saline with anesthesia medication so that she remains asleep while her stomach is "bypassed". This should lead to a reduction in weight, and therefore a reduction in her blood pressure as well as risk factors that accompany obesity. |
